RDC welcomes new Graduate and Intern to the team

17 June 2025

We’re pleased to welcome two new starters to RDC this month: William Reed, who has joined the team as a Graduate Town Planner, and Emily Doughty, who is undertaking a summer internship in town planning.

William holds a degree in Human Geography and has a particular interest in how people interact with places and the environment — a natural fit for the planning profession. He was drawn to RDC for its strong local reputation and the opportunity to join a close-knit team.

“Everyone’s been really supportive, and I’m excited to get out on site visits and make a real contribution to the team,” he said. “It’s a lot to take in during the first week, but I’m already beginning to piece it together and feel more confident navigating the work.”

Emily joins us as she prepares to enter her final year of a journalism degree. With a family background in town planning, she’s keen to explore the profession further, and is considering a postgraduate degree in planning after university.

“I’ve already worked on plans for housing, factories, and storage units. It’s been eye-opening to see the scope of work involved in town planning,” she said. “It’s been a great chance to understand more about what happens in the day-to-day of a consultancy like RDC.”

At RDC, we’re proud to offer a workplace where new team members can gain exposure to a diverse range of projects, develop their skills in a supportive environment, and work closely with colleagues in a collaborative structure with plenty of autonomy.

Managing Director Robert Doughty commented:

“We remember what it’s like starting out and we know how important it is to feel supported, trusted, and challenged. Whether someone is with us for a summer or joining us full-time, we aim to give them the chance to do real work and feel like part of the team.”

We’re delighted to have William and Emily on board and look forward to the contributions they’ll make.
