COUNTRYSIDE PLANNING

As a rurally based consultancy we carry out a range of work connected with the countryside. Traditionally this includes rural improvement schemes, large scale estate and diversification planning, economic regeneration and intensive livestock farm developments. In more recent times we have dealt with contemporary issues relating to workers accommodation for soft fruit growers.

DEVELOPMENT PLANNING

A large part of the consultancy's workload is based on development planning, in particular residential development. The Consultancy is retained by a number of housing developers and carries out: strategic planning, giving opinions on long term development potential; making outline applications to establish permissions for the medium term objectives of firms, and; detailed applications including the design of dwellings and preparing applications for approval under the Building Regulations. Other work in this area includes commercial proposals from new development to expansion of existing operations and negotiating with local authorities to avoid enforcement.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT

As landscape architects we identify and solve problems using design techniques based on a full understanding of the external environment, knowledge of the functional and aesthetic characteristics of landscape materials, and of the organisation of landscape elements, external spaces and activities.

The Consultancy is capable of providing comprehensive and specific landscape layouts including long and short-term landscape management plans, detailed garden designs, tourism and amenity facilities and public park design. Projects undertaken have ranged from large scale seaside foreshore redevelopments, power stations and Ministry of Defence projects to projects such as sheltered housing and housing association schemes and public, sensory and private gardens

WASTE AND MINERALS PLANNING

Application of skills in landscape architecture and town planning combined have led to a wealth of experience being gained in minerals planning and landfill restoration. We are retained by both Waste Planning Authorities to assist with complex planning matters, including enforcement issues, and by private companies.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND VISUAL ASSESSMENT

Environmental statements in association with planning applications of a larger scale with particular emphasis on the incorporation of landscape and visual impact assessments, such as industrial parks and intensive livestock farms.

DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH AND RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

Ranging from land searches to feasibility studies and detailed layout design to comprehensive planning application submissions embracing house types, roads, sewers and landscape design together with all Sectional Agreement negotiations. Extensive work on meeting the changing demands of government advice and local authorities has resulted in comprehensive appraisal of development, co-ordinating other specialists, such as archaeologists and traffic consultants, prior to a planning application being submitted.

RETAIL, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

Ranging from the design of individual superstores factory units to whole employment area layouts and retail impact assessments. The growing demands of local authorities in terms of environmental protection has led to a sensitive approach to proposals that involve noise and air pollution issues.

PLANNING APPLICATIONS AND APPEALS

A wide range of large and small scale projects for private companies and local authorities. Applications are made with special regard to the particular project.

Presenting evidence in written and oral form and acting as expert witnesses for all forms of appeal including enforcement proceedings. We also co-ordinate public inquiry teams on behalf of clients, having direct access to planning barristers.

ACTING AS EXPERT WITNESSES

Employed by County Councils as well as the private sector on a wide spectrum of land use, development, environmental and landscape based issues.
