Soft Fruit Production
RDC - Robert Doughty - Town Planning and Landscape Architecture
The increasing use of migrant workers to service the country's developing soft fruit industry has meant an increase in the number of applications we are involved in for polytunnels and associated caravans in which to house the migrant workers.
An example of this type of work has been our involvement in an expanding fruit farm situated close to Leeds, in the Green Belt. Once the need for the development had been established with the Planning Authority, the visual impact of both the caravans and the polytunnels was assessed by a Landscape Visual Impact Assessment, which took account of key views into the site. The findings of the assessment enable us to develop an informed scheme of mitigation, in the form of adjustments to the layout of the development on site and additional planting.
